ATAG Meeting Summary

October 19, 2007; Anaheim

The ATAG group met this past October in Anaheim, CA to discuss new and previous issues concerning the use of ISBT 128 in the Americas.  A new representative from Canadian Blood Services (CBS), Dorothy Ward was welcomed.  A motion was made to approve the minutes from the previous meeting; this motion was approved.  The meeting began with reports from participating groups such as ICCBBA, MEETAG, Hema Quebec, CBS, ARC, ABC, FDA, DoD, and HL7.  The following proposals were approved: Container Volume Range (07-001), Small Container Base Label (07-002), Derivative Labeling and Coding (07-003), Add Column to Database (07-004), Pooled ABO Code (07-007), and FIN Revision (07-008) with modifications.  The following proposals are still pending: Flag Characters (06-002) and Consignment Data Structure (07-006).  The proposal for ABO Code for Autologous with no ABO/Rh test (07-009) was rejected.  There was new discussion about adding a Confidential Unit Exclusion data structure to the Technical Specification.  However, this data structure will not be used in the US if it is created.
